About North Carolina Criminal History

North Carolina criminal records are divided among several government custodians. NC SBI maintains the fingerprint-based state repository, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction keeps state custody and supervision data, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry serves a separate public-safety function. Court files and county-created records add another layer across 100 counties. North Carolina Criminal History organizes those routes so visitors can identify the correct statewide system or local office without treating one database as a complete record source.

Why We Built This Site

Public access in North Carolina depends on knowing which agency created or maintains the record. NC SBI CIIS receives qualifying arrest fingerprints and links available court dispositions in its Computerized Criminal History file. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction tracks state prisoners, probationers, parolees, and people on post-release supervision. The state registry publishes information about people with a reportable registration duty, while North Carolina eCourts provides public case summaries. Local sheriffs, detention centers, police departments, and Clerks of Superior Court still hold the freshest booking data, reports, and authoritative case documents. This private resource brings those paths together at statewide level. The county directory then routes visitors to local records information for each of North Carolina's 100 counties.

North Carolina Criminal History is a privately operated reference resource. It is not connected with NC SBI, NCDAC, any North Carolina court, sheriff, police department, or other government body. Its role has clear limits:

  • We do not issue certified court documents, rap sheets, or other official copies
  • We cannot submit an expunction petition, public-record request, or other filing for a visitor
  • We do not retrieve a person's criminal record or conduct an official background check
  • We cannot provide legal advice about a particular charge, judgment, or eligibility question
  • We cannot promise that an agency's address, phone number, process, or fee has not changed

An official copy must come from the government custodian, such as NC SBI, the filing court, NCDAC, or the county office that created the source record. This resource can identify that route, but cannot supply the document.
